Art Direction At Serious Point Games

Aug 2023 - 2024

Day-to-day, I collaborate closely with a team of around 15 artists, both 3D and 2D, on the game production of "The Ski Lodge Murder." In my role as Art Director, I oversee asset production, establish art standards, offer feedback, and lead stand-up meetings. I also run workshops for work experience participants from various schools or professional individuals, representing Serious Point Games.

The Ski Lodge Murder

Game Pitch: Stuck in a ski lodge during a snowstorm, surrounded by rich elites, you all have one thing in commonYou are all staring at a dead body.
Role:
I am responsible for jobs including 2D art direction, texturing and character design.

ART REQUIREMENTS

The requirements of a low-topology game, with highly stylized and toon shaded artwork, make our art direction at Serious Point Games one of the most challenging yet creatively rewarding endeavours. Through techniques like hue shifting and the use of vibrant colours, I have established style guides to streamline our development processes. SKM is designed to be compatible with several platforms such as PC, Steam Deck, and Switch. These requirements provide certain art constraints, particularly the use of low-poly models and other technical limitations crucial for maintaining game performance on less powerful devices.

As the art director, I not only set the artistic vision but am also actively involved in every step of the art production pipeline. This hands-on approach allows me to directly guide junior artists and ensure that every piece of artwork aligns with our vision. Additionally, I provide detailed and precise feedback during various Quality Assurance (QA) stages, helping to maintain a high standard of quality and excellence whilst keeping up moral and team happiness.
